My husband & I are guardians of our daughter, age 25, who has Down’s syndrome. Does she need an Advanced Directive? For ourselves, where is a good place/source to get an Advanced Directive? I doctor quite a bit at Mayo. Thanks for the help.

Dr. Tung replies “Guardianship typically refers to a legal relationship in which the guardian has control over certain elements of the individual’s personal life. When the guardianship is set up, the specific covered elements are established. Oftentimes, guardians assume the role of healthcare power of attorney. I would advise to look into the actual guardianship documents and make sure that healthcare POA was established.”
